It’s a very common situation where everything seems to go belly up. We then end up blaming our luck, our environment or in some cases – the evil eye. But, what if I told you there was a way to bypass this? What if I told you that there was a different approach that you can adopt – and by doing that, you can offset one of the biggest mistakes you can make in your career?

  • You seem to be having a string of bad luck
  • Everything seems to be stacked against you
    • And everyone’s your enemy!
  • Everything seems to be going wrong
    • “Am I sooo unlucky?”
  • You seem to be missing opportunities
  • Seem to be stuck in a vicious downward spiral


  • Negative ideas and perspectives tend to stick
  • Our mental makeup affects our outlook and decisions
  • A foul disposition can sour relationships, destroy opportunities and negatively affect our career trajectory
  • Sunk cost should not be a factor in decision making


  • Intentionally search for the benefits of your situation
    • Forces you to change your viewing angle – and interpretation
  • Reframe that situation as a positive one
    • Forces you to look through a positive lens/filter
  • Look for the silver lining
    • Understand that this is temporary


  • New perspectives generate new angles to the situation
    • Your angle should be consciously chosen
  • Different interpretation means different stories
    • Everyone has a subjective reality
  • You control the narrative/story running in your head
    • The event happened. But, our interpretation can be different
  • Spin the story that takes you closest to your goals
    • Build your reality this way
      • This is a key aspect of success

      • Sarcasm
      • Jokes
      • Obedience
  • Look at present, difficult situations
    • What’s stressing you out now?
      • Why?
  • Finish this sentence: “Good. This means that…”

    • Do this as a daily exercise
      • Write it with pen and paper for greater satisfaction
